Information about Piegaro and surroundings

Piegaro

Piegaro is a small, typical Medieval town situated in Western Umbria along the road that connects Perugia with Città della Pieve.

In the Middle Ages glass artisans came from Venice to Piegaro. Today there's a glass factory and a glass museum (Museo del Vetro).

A few traditions are still alive, such as the festival of the asparagus at Pietrafitta (April – May), Trasimeno Blues (July), the chestnut festival at Piegaro (October) and the celebration of Saint Silvester, the town's patron (31th December).

The main local products are chestnuts, olive oil and wine. Piegaro is situated along the turistic road of wine and olive oil. In the historical center of Piegaro one can find two old churches and some typical palazzi.

In the surroundings there's a lot to visit: the castle of Greppolischieto, the Sanctuary of Mongiovino, the church of Colle San Paolo, the tower of Castiglion Fosco and the castle of Cibottola.

Oro

Oro is a small village located on a hill top (305 meters above sea level). It was an ancient fortress. Only the walls, a tower and a gate remained. It also has a beautiful old church.
